Pampering Ideas!!

We asked for you to send them in and you did. Here is part one of your wonderful Pampering Ideas!!

  • Dear FLYLady,
Once a week my pampering/beauty routine is as follows:
    1) Dry rasp my heels and soles (sometimes at this point I put on hair deep conditioner)
    2) Short or long soak in the tub with bubble bath depending on how much time I have
    3) Shave legs and underarms (of course I also do this one or two more times during the week too)
    4) Use a nail pumice stick on my fingernails and toenails
    5) Use a Dr. Scholl foot pumice on the bottoms of my feet to remove callouses
    6) Scrub my body with bath gel wearing those scratchy woven gloves
    7) Rinse off and get out
    8) Apply tooth-whitening gel for 3-5 minutes
    9) At the same time apply masque to my face, neck and chest for 10-15 minutes
    10) In the meantime apply lotion to the rest of my body
    11) File fingernails and trim and file toenails if necessary (you can put 1-2 coats of polish on your nails too)
    12) Rinse teeth and face and apply face cream

All this only takes 1/2 hour and you feel like a new woman afterward. I make sure to lock my bedroom door beforehand, and since my bathroom is inside my bedroom if I have extra time waiting for my masque to dry I can do some bathroom and/or room cleanup. I don't think 1/2 hour once a week is too much to spend on yourself. You couldn't drive to the salon and back in that amount of time! Also, there is no law about when you could treat yourself. If your only free time is in the morning when the kids are at school, then by all means do it then.

  • My favorite ways to pamper myself:
    * get your eyebrows waxed. It's not as painful as it sounds - honest - and it opens your whole face up when it's done. I like to think of it as my non-surgical face lift secret.
    * manicure and pedicure.
    * get a massage. Look for a massage school - students take their time and give great massages for just a fraction of the cost.
    * join a book club and schedule time to actually read the book. Joining a club will force you to have the book finished by a deadline and the book club meeting will get you out of the house to socialize!
And my all-time favorite means of pampering these days - learning to FLY!

    Thanks!

  • Dear Flylady and all,
My favorite way to pamper myself is with a pedicure! At one time, Avon was selling an inflatable foot bath, with some foot scrub. I bought them and when I need a lift, I fill it up with warm water, soak and scrub my feet, clip my toe nails and put on a little polish. It makes me feel so perky. I especially like to do this while watching a movie.

    Thanks for all you do!

  • Dear Flylady,
I have two school age boys. We are also a very loud family. I find that my favorite way to pamper myself is to go to the local bookstore for an hour or two. I buy a cup of coffee and read all the books and magazines I want. Sometimes I buy something, sometimes not. I find this is better than the library, because the bookstore sells coffee and treats and has a newer selection of reading material. The peace and quiet rejuvenates me and I'm a better mom and wife when I get home.

  • After the children and I come home from school in the afternoon, I put on the kettle and make myself a nice cup of raspberry tea and then I make myself sit down to enjoy it.

  • Trim finger nails and toe nails and file any sharp edges. Give fingernails a coat of clear varnish and toes a coat of any lovely colour you like.

  • Hello! I'm so excited to hear everyone's ideas for pampering themselves... my MIL calls it "nurturing myself." What a lovely idea!
Here are some of my favorites: *Making up some hot chocolate (or grabbing some at a little coffee shop) and window shopping or taking a nice walk.
*Taking my lunch to a park and eating while kids play nearby. Sometimes I read or knit there, too.
    * I have a file of cards and letters I've saved from beloved people, and when I need to remember who I am or have a little self-esteem pick-me-up, I crack out the pretty little basket and read through a few. It always makes me feel wonderful, and it motivates me to love on others and write some affirming notes, too.
*Doing a face mask and giving myself a manicure or pedicure or a deep conditioning hair treatment, then taking a LOOOOONG steamy shower till I'm all pruned, and slathering myself with shea butter or lotion.
*Watching a chick flick or one of my favorite movies, curled up on the couch. Doing absolutely nothing else but watching.
*Buying myself a little treasure - some pretty stationery, a scented candle, bath salts, a new lipstick, some English tea (no clutter!). Then enjoying it.
*Watching the sunset. When I lived in California, I'd savor it at the beach. Here in Minnesota I take it in by a lake near our house.
*Holing up at a little dessert or bread shop with my journal, then enjoying a little treat while I write or peoplewatch out the window. Sometimes I take along a girlfriend for some good chat time.

Hope those are inspiring for someone - I know they nurture me!!

  • Hi,
My favorite way to pamper myself is to go to a coffee shop with my friends for an hour one morning. It's a great way to relax and get caught up!

  • My favorite ways to pamper myself range from very grand to very simple. Here are some of the things I do:
    * Get rid of the kids one day a week so I can clean or shop, but mainly just be by myself. Some days all I do is take a nap and read a book!
    * Get a latte when I go grocery shopping. It makes the whole experience better!
    * A fresh coat of nailpolish, even if only on my toenails!
    * Commit to an excersize routine. This has been hard to keep, but so worth it!
    * Fresh flowers as often as possible. I just buy them at the grocery store - even just happy carnations or daisies (which last forever) make everything brighter. Takes the pressure off my DH, too. LOL
    * I have a weekly girls' group that I go to. We've been meeting as a whole group for over six years and although it's ostensibly a Bible study, it's so much more. These women are my best friends and I don't miss a night unless I absolutely have to.
    * Set the coffee maker so there's freshly brewed coffee when I come downstairs in the morning.
    * The best thing I do to pamper myself, though, is to tell myself over and over that *I* deserve a clean house, a made bed, feet that don't hurt, clean clothes, etc. I tell myself that I do these things for ME and that cleaning up after everyone is how I bless them, instead of being angry at how much mess a family can produce. It really helps motivate me to keep moving!

    Thanks for EVERYTHING!

  • I teach our daughters at home and always seem to have serious reading, paper correcting or research to do in connection with it, and between that and taking care of personal finances and the household I really crave some "mindless" time. I don't like to watch tv or read magazines very much, so what I do sometimes is play an electronic solitaire game (handheld). It engages my mind a little, but mostly it is a game that does not require serious thought. That is such a relief to me after a day of trying to figure out math, history and science puzzles! *And* I can put it down after just a couple minutes if necessary, so it is something I can do for myself real quick in between times if I'm getting a bit stressed.

  • Dear Flylady,
I love to give myself a pedicure and paint my toenails bright red. I am a homeschooling Mom of four children and every time I see my bright, shiny toenails, it reminds me that I took a few minutes for myself. It also reminds me that I am more than a Mom! Thanks for reminding us to take care of ourselves!

  • I have as my nightly routine a portion of time that I call "Sit." Since I tend to sort of bustle around otherwise, this is the key component to it being self-pampering. During that time, I can do anything, as long as I am still sitting. I usually knit, but anything would work, as long as it was something you enjoyed and that was for yourself.

  • Dear Flylady and Crew,
I love Kelly’s weekly pamper missions. They remind me that while I am blessing my family by having their clothes clean, keeping toilet paper in the bathrooms, and helping our organizational skills that I need to take some time out for me, too. To pamper myself I do something as simple as painting my toenails. It only takes a couple of minutes, but every time I see my feet from then on I remember “Hey, I took care of myself, and look how pretty my feet are!” I indulge in a professional pedicure a couple of times per year as well. I also like to go to our local beauty college where they give facials for only $15. A professional one costs around $65! A 50 dollar savings and I bet it’s almost as good as the professional one.
This may not be considered pampering but I really enjoy time to go scrapbooking by myself. I started scrapbooking a few months ago and I’ve found it to be very therapeutic. I’ve revisited the delicious time in which my husband and I fell in love; different experiences we’ve shared, the birth of our (now 2 year old) daughter, our wedding, and on and on. While I’m creating the pages I look at the pictures, remember the experience, and re-live that time period while I’m thinking about how I want to portray the experience on paper. It is fantastic, and I come home refreshed with a renewed appreciation for my family, as well as an heirloom that my daughter and husband love to look at! I get pampered and I produce something tangible for my family too. Double blessings!

Thank you for all that you do.

  • When I want to feel pampered, I take my nightly shower half an hour earlier, snuggle into my comfy robe, turn back the bedcovers, switch on the nedside lamp, and read another chapter of the novel that I checked out from the library. I love the quiet peacefulness of my "alone" time.

  • Every night I simmer two quarts of plain broth from vegetables (no meat or flavorings), and set the hot quarts in Mason jars beside the bed (in a big punch bowl so I don't knock them over). During evening routine or waking up during the night, it's so soothing to sip on them. Then in the morning the leftover broth can be heated up to start the day. For some reason, it's uncomfortable to drink plain room-temperature water, especially in winter; but heated with vegetables and some warming ginger it feels really good and adds liquid and vitamins too.

Thank you for the pampering section!

  • Thank you, FlyLady, Kelly, and crew, for reminding us to pamper ourselves! A few times a month I give myself a "Feet Treat". I like to do this in the evening. It's a good substitute for a bubble bath. I fill a plastic dishpan (used specifically for this purpose) with very warm water and set it on a folded bath towel on the floor in front of the sofa. I relax, close my eyes, take some deep, slow breaths, and just soak my feet for 5-10 minutes. It's a great way to de-stress. Then I use a jar of scented sugar scrub to exfoliate my feet and calves. After drying off my feet with an extra towel, I apply foot lotion and put on some white cotton socks. Then I wash the dishpan in the bathtub. It's a very soothing little bath for your tootsies after a long day on your feet!

  • Hey Fly Crew,
First thanks for all you do. You make life so much nicer and calmer. My favorite way to pamper myself is to take a cup of tea or coffee onto my beautiful front porch my DH built for me and to sit in the swing and read a good book or a magazine like Southern Lady or Tea Time. I love being out there, even when everyone else thinks it is too cold. I just wrap up. I set my Fly Lady timer and I don't feel guilty at all!

    Love y'all,

  • Hello,
I'm not sure if this should be considered more of a testimonial, but here goes:
I am a single Mom. I have a very stressful job, sometimes seven days a week. I have two ways I pamper myself each day. I take my German shepherd & Pomeranian puppy out for their morning "going outside" :-) as soon as I come home from work. Then I give them their breakfast (children are already at school). While the puppies are eating I get on the computer and check my FlyLady emails and testimonials. This helps me take my mind off work and start to unwind. Checking those emails have helped me get through a very traumatic experience last year (with some counseling as well). The counseling helped, but my counselor couldn't always be there.
So when I felt like there was nothing left & I just wanted to give up, I would turn to the testimonials and the emails. Those emails would help me to have the strength I needed to "pick myself up" and start the process of learning to love myself. God Bless all of you! (You have helped me stay strong for myself and my children)
So naturally my first pampering is checking my FlyLady emails and testimonials (works wonders for me- I also LOVE the FlyLady CDs and DVD)
My next pampering mission I try to do faithfully everyday is to go to bed a half hour early so that I may read a really good book before going to sleep. This one little thing helps me to sleep better than I have in 23 years.
I have been put through every form of abuse (the source of the abuse is in jail now) starting at the age of 12. I now sometimes think of myself as a phoenix rising above the ashes of abuse - I think my long red hair fits this too ;-) )

    Bless You,
A Phoenix spreading her wings in PA.

  • My fun pampering mission is good for me and my son! I have a 20 year old son with Down Syndrome who is terrific at foot massaging! After his brother and sisters are in bed, he will come into our den with a smile on his face and his hands behind his back. I say, "Well, what are YOU doing up?" And he brings out the bottle of lotion! He rubs lotion on my feet, and I'm supposed to "forget" that he is staying up late! LOL Hey, it works for me! He's a sweet guy, and has plenty of patience to give a great foot rub. And, after a long day as chauffeur, cook, laundress, counselor, coach, and all-around great Mom to 4 children - what a great way to be pampered!

Thank you Dear FlyLady and Crew - for reminding all of us that we ARE worth pampering!

  • I work at home on a farm and I use to think doing my nails was a waste of time. One of my greatest desires was to have beautiful nails, but my stinking thinking was taking over with "why bother, the polish will be chipped off the first day, long nails will break, bla bla bla." Well, I decided to keep my nails just past the end of my finger tips and cover with Sally Hansen nail hardener. That worked great.
Now I do my nails once a week. Last week I used red polish and covered with the nail hardener and it lasted all week to my astonishment. Farm work wasn't as bad on my nails as I thought it was and when I have to run to town my nails always look nice.
I have also put hand lotions at every sink. My hands have not looked this good since I use to work in an office 8 yrs ago.

Thank you for giving me permission to take care of my needs.

  • HI, FLYcrew,
One of the first things I did when joined FLYlady and set up my weekly plan was to designate Thursday evenings as my "Beauty Night". That's my evening to do my nails, or a facial, or a longer bubble bath (sometimes with a glass of wine as well as candles ;), or do a pedicure with foot lotion and sockies overnight. I don't do all of the above every Thursday, but I pick and choose depending on need, desire, and time. I think my Thursday night Beauty Night stemmed from Kelly's earlier reminders to use vaseline on dry cracked heels and wear socks to bed - those always seemed to come on Thursdays :d

  • A year ago I added a small list to renew your spirit day. On Sunday afternooons I give my self a manicure, pedicure, clean my wedding ring, and tweeze my eyebrows. I do this right after arranging my outfits that I'm going to wear for the week in my closet. This routine takes less than an hour to complete, and I feel so great after taking time to do things just for me. The feeling lasts all week since I'm not searching for clothes in the morning, or when I notice my wedding ring sparkle.~ Flybaby in Dearborn Hts.

  • I just started this one: I added a pampering treatment for each zone. That way, hopefully at least once a week each month I will do a "home spa treatment" I can try to schedule it in at the beginning of the week when I'm checking my calendar.
My new addition is in my control journal under "Zones" and looks like this:
Zone 1: Hot Oil Hair Treatment
    Zone 2: Facial
    Zone 3: Pedicure
    Zone 4: Manicure
    Zone 5: Leg Waxing

  • Between housework and horses, my hands get HAMMERED!! A couple of months ago, I happened on this by accident: it was bedtime, I had just washed my terribly rough, chapped hands, and my lotion was missing from the bathroom counter. There was a bottle of pure, cold-pressed olive oil there, as I had been making some aromatherapy goodies, and after I had patted my hands on the towel, leaving them slightly damp, I poured a couple of drops into my palms and rubbed them together, really fast and firmly, until they heated up. Then I massaged the warm oil into my warm hands for only about 30 seconds, and I couldn't believe how my hands soaked it up! They weren't greasy or anything, and the quick massage felt wonderful.
When I woke up the next morning, my hands were soft and new again! Now, I almost never use lotion- anytime I wash my hands, I just use 1 drop of olive oil while they're still a bit damp, a little friction and a mini-massage. It feels great, feeds my skin, repairs damage, and protects them from housework and sink shining! It's a wonderful, quick pamper at the end of any job. At night, I use a couple of drops, massage for a whole minute, and let sleep take care of the rest of the job.
Kelly, maybe you & the crew could give it a try, and if it works this well for you, you might feel like sharing it with the group. It's simple, inexpensive, and it has been my poor hands' salvation! I'm pushing fifty, so it might be more than younger hands need...but then you could always blot a bit with tissue and rub again. See what you think. (I'm going to add a drop of organic lavender oil to my bottle, just for fun & extra healing, but only one-it's kind of nice not to have fragrance on your hands when you're working, eating, etc.)

    Sincerely,
    Carla

  • Last Saturday morning, I decided to get some errands out of the way - a couple of them were fun errands just for me. I told DH I was headed out for errands and should be back around lunchtime. I left him with the 2 little ones and off I went.
I had such a good time! I went to a fabric store to browse and plan for a new color scheme in the dining room. I didn't spend a dime - I wasn't rushed, didn't have anyone tapping their foot at me, and I dreamed about my next project at home. I stopped by a local bakery and got a little bag of cookies for the girls. I went to a new scrapbook store to browse. All places I've been meaning to go, but never get a chance to with the little ones.
I came home so refreshed, so energized! I've still got a little bounce in my step when I think about how much fun I had. I hope to make this a regular event - perhaps once a month. Just a morning out for ME. Anywhere I want to go! Anything I want to look at! Maybe that's not pampering like a manicure, but I certainly FELT pampered.

  • Yesterday where we live it was a perfect day, blue sky, warm air, birds the works. I went outside while my family was taking a nap and swung in my hammock. Taking advantage of a beautiful day to enjoy God's creations is such a renewal of the spirit and helped me feel like I was giving myself something beautiful.

  • Once a week or so while I'm making dinner and waiting for something to cook, I take a few drops of olive oil and a teaspoon of kosher (coarse) salt and rub it into my hands for a few minutes. The salt gets rid of that yucky winter skin and the oil softens my hands. Then I rinse off the salt and enjoy dinner.

  • My favorite way of pampering myself is to light my favorite candle, put on my Andrea Bocelli CD titled "Mistero Dell' Amore" (The mystery of Love), kick off my shoes, put my feet up, close my eyes, and totally lose myself in the music for about 30 minutes. Never fails to refresh my spirit and mind.

  • Dear Flylady and crew,
You hold a dear place in my heart. You see, my wonderful husband is serving our country as a part of Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq.
Your routines and missions have helped me do what I have needed to keep my house neat, and my 3 children with clean clothes, and supper on the table. This is important, as some days, the tears are too many and flood my eyes so much that I can't see, nor think about what I need to be doing. Your emails remind me to get up and do it NOW. So, I do. You asked about a pamper mission. Well, here in Massachusetts, when National Guardsmen and women are deployed, the Rotary Club of Bedford gives them a very huggable teddy bear for each child in their family. I have seen how much this teddy bear has meant to my kids, and how tightly they hug it going to bed. I got jealous, that I didn't have a teddy bear from my love. So, for my pamper mission, tomorrow after I do lunch duty at the local elementary school, I will go to a local "Build-A-Bear" store, and build myself a huggable bear.
It might seem strange, but then I will have a bear for me. I will fill him with hugs to give my brave soldier when he gets home in the spring of 2006.

Thank you for helping me get thru this tough time.

  • I recently went to a home party where they were showcasing various lotions, baths products, etc. The hostess filled a plastic tub for each person with very warm water, some moisturizing oil, and marbles. You soaked your feet in the tub and rolled them around on the marbles. Just like a foot massage! There's no reason why we can't do this at home with our own marbles - it's a treat that really feels special.

  • Dear FlyLady,
How do I pamper myself? Let me count the ways?

    by shining my sink
by swishing and swiping my bathrooms this week
    by having a dinner plan
by fifteen mnutes of stretching exercises (yoga)
by laying down and relaxing for fifteen minutes
    by drinking water
by sitting down to reada magazine for 45 minutes
    by scheduling a massage
    by getting a badly-needed haircut

    Sincerely,
Thanks for giving me my wings!

  • My favorite way to pamper myself is by going to my local large bookstore for a couple of hours. I buy a really decadent coffee or tea drink then wander around reading pieces and parts of books. I top the visit off by going to the music section, putting on headphones and listening to the latest releases of my favorite artists. All for the cost of that frothy drink...about $3!

  • When I want to pamper myself I take a nice hot bath with the water as full as the tub will allow. I use something to scent the bath, and I begin to read a book (usually a Harlequin). After a minimum of 30 minutes in the tub I will get out and then finish the book. This is pampering for me as I usually take an economical shower instead of a luxurious bath, and taking an entire evening to myself instead of working on the many things needing done is a great break. An added bonus for me is that it is virtually free -- I have many bath products on hand and I buy the books from the annually library used book sale for $5 for a bag.
If I want to make it super special I have one of my favorite dishes which is not on my diet for dinner. The foods I truly enjoy tend to be fried, loaded with butter, or very high in calories. In trying to be healthier these foods have been significantly reduced from my diet. However, life is too short not to splurge once in a while!

  • One way I pamper myself is by listening to my favorite music in the car when I’m alone. I have two young children who attend a Mother’s Day Out program once a week (which is also pampering J), and when I’m running errands or going to lunch on this day, I love to listen to relaxing classical music. It really helps me feel like this is MY time and reminds me to do the things I want to do that day.

  • Hi Flycrew! Like so many, my young family and PT job keep me hopping. My pampering is also my way of staying on top of my beauty routine (can you say unibrow!!!) I do a little something every day during a 15 minute break.Mini mani and pedi Sunday, hair mask during my weekly home blessing Monday, face mask or scrub Wednesday etc.I will admit that sometimes the most I have time for is body lotion after my shower but I am trying! Now that I am wearing shoes during the day my feet are in much better shape and I have started putting a foot cream on every night before bed-my DH was so sweet not to ever say anything but he has started offering to rub my feet again:-)Thank you for everything you do.Love to all.

  • Dear FlyLady & Crew -
One way I pamper myself is with a good old fashioned cup of Hot Chocolate. Sometimes I get the flavored kind but plain chocolate flavor is fine too! At night, once the kids are in bed, I get my hot chocolate and a can of whipped cream and keep the can with me to put more in as it dissolves!! ~YUMMY~

  • Dear Flycrew,
I am in my eighth week of pregnancy with full blown all day sickness. It takes all the energy I have to get out of bed and take care of my kids. I have to admit many of my routines have gone by the wayside. I have been keeping up the bare minimum, shiny sink, made bed, dinner in the crock pot and this has helped a lot! I know that when I am feeling better I will get back into full blown action.
However, in the mean time the way I have been pampering me is to take a nap in the afternoon without guilt! I homeschool my kids so we finish school in the morning and a short while after lunch, I have the older kids take some quiet time for themselves and read in their rooms. Then, my four year old and I lay down in my room for twenty minutes to a half hour. It really makes all the difference in the world. My older kids have enjoyed their quiet time and my four year old DD and I have had some special bonding time, I’m rested recharged and ready to face the rest of the day. I believe that this has been as good for my family as it has been me. No more cranky tired mommy in the afternoon, still nauseous and queasy but not tired.

    Blessings,

  • At our church we have a groupcalled Circle of Friends and for Valentines Day we got together and went to a Day Spa. We have Mothers Day Out so Child care was taken care of and we went had massages, facial, and hand/foot Paraffin Dips. We also talked, had a devoutional, and ate a light brunch. It was a great time, especially since most of our husbands have been deployed to Iraq and it was just a great way to spend the day.

  • Dear FlyCrew,
I wanted to share a pampering mission that I did last week.
During the winter, I usually don't spend a lot of time on shaving my legs, since no one will see them under my winter clothes. When I do take the time to shave my legs, it is usually a quick shave boogie in the shower while DS (2YO) is trying to open the shower door.
While DH was away on business & DS was staying with DPIL (Dear Parents-in-law), I decided to pamper me after completing my routines. First I layed out my shaving supplies (including a new razor blade) & filled a soaking tub with warm water. Next I used an expoliating cream on my legs and then a wash (like I was giving myself a facial on my legs). After the wash, came a warm towel & a detailed shaving. I finished it up with a nice leg massage complete with lotion.
Afterward, my legs felt rejuvinated. The next day, I just smiled at myself when I walked into work as I felt my pants rubbing against my freshly shaved, silky legs. When DH came home, he was blessed; he thought it was all for him (my little secret).

  • Dear Fly Lady,
I pamper myself by going to a public garden. I am really fortunate, as I live in Pasadena, CA., and have three lovely ones nearby. I can walk to the Huntington Gardens and Library. I can also drive 10 minutes to reach the Los Angeles County Arboretum (to the East) or the Descanso Gardens (to my West.) I love my own gardens at home, but they are small. It seems that nothing picks me up like a stroll in a really BIG garden. There are so many varieties of plants, trees, flowers to see - I find that being in Nature's bounty heals my soul and mind. I can quiet down and just enjoy lovely blossoms and bird song. Yesterday I went to the Huntington and spent nearly an hour in the cactus conservatory, glorying in spikey, knobby, and furry plants. My younger son gave me a plant from there a number of years ago as a Mother's Day present. While this shocked his Grandmother, who took him there to get me a present, it was the perfect one for me. I look at it every day and my heart is reminded of him. The plant is healthy and strong, just as he is. Best of all, I put in an extra 4,000 steps by walking about and enjoying Mother Nature's bounty. Who could ask for anything more? Fresh air, walkies, beautiful gardens, reminders of my DS....

Thanks for the opportunity to share.
    Margaret

  • I pamper myself by having my kids former babysitter now massage therapist come over and give me a full body massage. It is very relaxing, and I don't have to get a sitter for my three little ones that aren't in school.I had one this morning after I dropped my kids of tho school. I do this about every two weeks. It is my little way of loving myself so that I can get back to loving my husband and six children.

  • Dear Flylady
one of my favorite pamper sessions is going to the gym and not working out. I do what I like to call the Princess triathlon. This is where I take advantage of things in my gym that I feel are extravagant features. First, I hit the whirlpool, then I hit the sauna, then I hit the steam room. I finish up the triathlon as any good athlete does with a long hot shower (the hot water never runs out at the gym). By the time that I am ready to leave I am like a puddle of mush. It feels wonderful and I feel rejuvenated and well taken care of. I know not everyone belongs to a gym and if some do they may not have these features, but for those who do I highly recommend the princess triathlon. You will feel like a million bucks.

  • 1 - Set aside time to watch a favorite movie that DH won't watch with you - with a good glass of wine or a favorite desert.
2 - Set aside an hour read - just for yourself - as a reward for completing a routine or shining your sink.
3 - At end of day, read Flylady testimonials to go to bed with a good outlook on tomorrow!

  • I like to pamper myself occasionally with a new pair of pretty pj's and some fragrant lotion. Then, I get all "dolled" up and watch a movie I have rented for just myself. I was at my mother's house over this past weekend, and mentioned to her what a fun treat it was and how it made me feel. She told me she had never done that before! So, we headed out, treated ourselves to new pj's and a movie from our favorite store, Target, and had a really nice evening together. We didn't really spend too much money, but it made us feel like a million bucks!

  • I grew up playing piano and later clarinet in the high school marching band. I played hymns for Sunday School and church camp. But I declined to join the college band because I knew I wasn't talented enough to stand up to the vigors involved. When I married I didn't have an instrument except for a very short time with a player piano--good when I bought it but too much use by my family of four wore out the billows and I couldn't afford to repair it.
Now forty years later. Recently I decided I wanted personal music back in my life. Christmas eve a year ago, I was making a last minute shopping trip and found a pretty decent kid's keyboard for $10. I thought, wow, I can't lose much and I would see whether I was really interested. Well, I played it quite often, but since it was only big enough for treble clef I wanted to move on. I didn't quite think I was ready to spend for a better one, but a friend who wasn't using hers loaned it to me indefinitely this past weekend. Since I am not planning to play for anyone but myself, re-learning to play is pampering me. I have a goal to be able to play Die Fladermous (sp?) by Straus which I could in high school and really liked.
So I pampered myself this morning and really enjoyed learning this keyboard. I found in the past it is also a good way to "let off steam." I have two handicaps to overcome and then practice, practice. The handicaps are relearning to recognize the notes off the bar and figuring out where to put the music so I can read it. Otherwise, most of my knowledge is still there, just needs to be reawakened.

  • I order the books I want to read on Inter-Library Loan at our local library. I get to read the books I want without fretting about buying them new.

  • Dear FlyCrew,
Once a week, usually on Sunday, my DH takes our two DDs for a couple of hours and I go off by myself. I used to run errands or go to the grocery store, but I decided that I needed to do something that was just for me. Lately, I've been taking my favorite book and finding a quiet place to read and drink a good cup of coffee. Sometimes I stay at the coffee shop, sometimes I go to the reading room in the library, sometimes I just sit in the car. What a glorious thing to have a block of time to sit clear headed and read a book! It rejuvenates my mind and spirit! When I return home I can greet my family refreshed and ready to give them my full attention. I highly recommend a little peace and quiet as a great way to pamper yourself.
